Electric-Arc Spraying System

Low-Cost, High-Strength Metal Coatings

Electric-arc spray is a low-cost process offering metal coatings with high bond strengths, high deposition rate and minimal substrate heating.

Manufactures in many industries, including electrical, automotive, marine, power generation, and electronics gain these advantages by using electrical-arc spray in their operations.

Manufactures coating both metal and nonmetal substrates should consider electric-arc spray to:

  • Make parts last longer by making them more resistant to wear, abrasion, or corrosion
  • Restore worn parts to their desired dimensions more cost effectively than by replacing the part
  • Make plastic components electrically or thermally conductive with less expense than by using other materials

Electric-arc spray is easy to use either as a hand-held unit or as part of a fully automated production system. Recent advances and refinements in equipment design have aided the growth of electric-arc spray into new application areas, including mold making, anti-skid coatings, and decorative coatings, Because of the many advances of electric-arc spray and its suitability to many applications.

Reclamation: Electric-arc spray contains commonly reclaim worn, damaged or mismachined parts. Typical reclamation applications include the repair of thick, heavy bronze or Babbitt bearings and journals for steel mill rolls. Electric-arc spray reclaims brake drums and clutches for heavy vehicles, where high shear strength is a great benefit. It is used to rebuild cylinders liners on high powered diesel engines, restoring the inside diameters. Bearings are reclaimed in place, instead of removing an entire shaft.

Other Applications:New and exciting applications for electric-arc spray are constantly being discovered. Decorative uses include making pewter or bronze plaques by coating fiberglass preforms. Aluminum and stainless steel coatings on motorcycle mufflers improve appearance and oxidation resistance. Anti-skid coatings are applied to aircraft and ship stairways and offshore oil rig walkways to increase personnel safety.
